Explained

The animations included on Bay Link are monthly averages of Nitrate, Oxygen, Phosphate, Salinity and Temperature. When displayed in this type of a "movie" format, it becomes easier to visualize the changes taking place in the Bay over the course of a year. Animations like these are used often by scientists to study environmental changes which occur over time.

We recommend you download and cache the animation files prior to class time.

The animations were extracted with permission from the Chesapeake Bay Atlas, a CD-ROM produced by Sarah Rennie & Bruce Neilson of The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). The disk contains Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Water Quality data for the water years 1985 - 1991.
