Visitors are Welcome
at the Hawk Observation and
Songbird Banding Stations

Come experience Kiptopeke's fall migration! Come knowing that it's like a visit to Las Vegas: You may hit the jackpot and see many, many birds. You may see "only" beautiful sunsets, clean beaches and miles of woodland paths.

Family groups are welcome anytime from September 1st through October 25th (and even later for hawk observation). Visitors may want to schedule a visit to coincide with the Eastern Shore Birding Festival, October 5th and 6th, when there are many programs: bird walks, canoe trips, and other activities which focus on birds, butterflies and the Shore's unique habitats. If you come another time, particularly during the week, you will encounter few people and accommodations are likely to be inexpensive. Groups of eight or more should schedule trips several weeks in advance with the Kiptopeke Park office, (757) 331-2267.

We are very pleased that we can make the songbird banding station open to the public. However, we ask visitors to understand that the birds come first. When there is a big flight day, we will need to work to rapidly band and release the birds and may not be able to give people attention as promptly as we would like.

Accommodations in southern Northampton County are varied and inexpensive. There are several motels and B&Bs nearby, and RV and tent camping right at the park. There are no costs for visiting K.E.ST.R.E.L. sites, though we will gladly take donations. The park has a modest entry fee and special fees for group tours. For more information, call the park office.
