Striped Bass
Morone saxatilis

The striper or rockfish of every angler's fancy is an ocean going fish which must reproduce in brackish or fresh water. These so called anadromous fish make seasonal runs up the bay's rivers. The striped bass spends its first three years at the river mouths in the bay. Upon leaving the bay it is quite capable of long migrations. Tagged bay stripers have been caught as far away as Maine's coastal waters. Stripers can grow up to 78 pounds, although they are frequently caught in the ten to twenty pound range.
